Welcome to the Alumni Community

Inspiring as they are, Students on Ice (SOI) expeditions are only the first step in a youth’s lifelong journey of growth and empowerment. Following a participant’s return from an expedition, the SOI Alumni Program welcomes them with the tools to convert that inspiration into action. Today, we boast a global network of more than 4,500 alumni from 52 countries around the world, and are committed to supporting our alumni through training and opportunities for leadership and career development.

Alumni Programs

SOI alumni programs connect alumni not only to one another, but to opportunities for life-long learning, support of alumni-led initiatives, community service, and personal and professional development.

Saavittut Inuit Cultural Land Camp

Saavittut, meaning “taking off from the shore” in Inuktitut, is an initiative deeply entrenched in Inuit culture and heritage. Supported by Braiding Knowledges Canada and developed in partnership with Northern Youth Leadership, this program aims to empower young Inuit with vital skills and cultural understanding through culturally relevant programming, preparing them to assume leadership roles in their communities.

Alumni Delegations

Alumni bring their youth voices to national and international conferences while engaging in and learning about key issues. Delegations also provide an opportunity for alumni to connect and collaborate with the broader alumni community and to grow their professional network.

Microgrants

SOI partners provide grant funding in support of alumni-led projects worldwide. This is a great opportunity for youth to take the inspiration and knowledge gained on expeditions and turn this into initiatives that benefit their communities and countries.

Mentorships

Learning is a life-long journey, and we believe that a mentor can always be a mentee and a mentee can be a mentor. The SOI Mentorship Program connects both to share guidance and advice from a real-world point-of-view.
