Expedition Well Wishes...

Congratulations on being selected to participate in the 2011 Arctic
Expedition. We are at a critical juncture in history, when we must
transform our energy systems, our economy and our ways of life
to make them sustainable. I hope your experience in one of the
world's most threatened areas will be truly transformational for
you, giving you insights and skills that will allow you to be one
of the leaders of this transformation. Safe travels!"

The polar regions have risen to the top of environmental concerns. Endowed especially in the high Arctic, with unique and newly endangered life forms; holding a large fraction of Earth’s fresh water; and subject to exceptionally rapid climate change, these remote parts of the world have a great importance for the generations immediately ahead. I’m glad that the Students on Ice program is leading in the kind of environmental education most needed.

This trip was an awe-inspiring experience. I saw things I didn’t think existed on earth. I have traveled a lot and have seen many beautiful things but never has a trip inspired and altered me as much as this one.

SOI Arctic Student Alumnus

With programs like SOI, we have a chance at helping the world understand that the Arctic is indeed an early warning beacon and health barometer for the planet. As students and adults witness for themselves the dramatic changes during an SOI trip, they get a better appreciation of what it is we are all working hard to protect. We are counting on you to keep up the great work Students on Ice!

Nobel Prize Nominee

Students on Ice is an outstanding educational program. Just one of their shipboard expeditions to the Polar Regions equals two or three academic courses in a traditional university setting. The Arctic and Antarctic are where major changes in our global environment are first being seen. I am proud and honored to participate in this unique shipboard program.

Students on Ice creates an environment for students to learn and thrive. The program is a recipe for transformation: it combines exciting adventure, important cultural exposure, and personal development. Its educational philosophy encourages youth to act and think locally, but also to explore the world, to build international links, and to learn from one another. Students, teachers, and parents will not be disappointed by this amazing program.
