Aug 05 - Iqaluit and Ottawa, Canada - This morning we arrive to the capital of Nunavut, Canada. After we disembark, we'll have some time to visit the legislature and other main attractions of this interesting town. This evening we board our flight to Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. Some of you will catch connecting flights home. Others overnight in Ottawa. --------------------------- It has been an amazing trip that has been everything they could have hoped for. Yesterday alone they saw over 100 walrus!
Today all expeditioners are safe and sound in Iqaluit. A final zodiac ride, in high winds, deposited them on shore with nothing worse than some wet feet. The same wet and windy weather has delayed flight plans. The plane is on its way to Iqaluit and departure is now estimated to be 4:30 p.m. with arrival in Ottawa at 8:00 p.m. Obviously, this will interrupt some pickup plans and connecting flights but, once again, we experience the SOI motto, “Flexibility is the key.”
Students are touring Iqaluit, visited the Nunavut Legislature and had a talk from the Minister of the Environment, Minister Akesuk.
