DAILY EXPEDITION UPDATES

Friday, December 25, 2009

TORONTO, CANADA - Update: 7:00am

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good morning and welcome to the very first update of the Antarctic Expedition 2009!

Most of our students are at home reviewing their packing lists (checking them twice!), and getting ready for the upcoming expedition, but others are already in the air and travelling! We have students coming from nine different countries - and it takes, in some cases, a day or two for us all to arrive to Ushuaia, Argentina, where will will be based before setting sail for Antarctica!

Our staff and and expedition team members are already en route or have already arrived in either Toronto or Miami or Santiago, Chile, in order to greet students as they arrive at the various airport hubs. But by Sunday, we will all be together in one big happy group in Santiago, Chile, and will make the last leg to Ushuaia, Argentina, together! There, we will spend a day-and-a-half exploring beautiful Ushuaia and the surrounding Tierra del Fuego before boarding our expedition ship for ANTARCTICA!

Over the next several days, we will be providing updates and status reports on the whereabouts of the team and everything that they are doing. The team will endeavor to find time in airports and hotels to send us some journals and photos that we will be able to post on these pages.

Once the team is onboard the ship, we can expect daily updates and photos galore. There are occasions (such as choppy seas, anchored in steep fjords, etc.) when the team will not be able to get a satellite signal to us and updates may be delayed. In those cases, we will receive a phone call from the ship, and we will update the site accordingly. We try our best throughout this journey-of-a-lifetime to give you a front-row seat to this adventure!

Below... you will see an image of the Toronto, Canada, skyline. Twenty-two students are arriving here throughout the day to Pearson International Airport where they will be greeted by our staff and transported to our hotel.

By tomorrow, all of our students will be in the air and our destination will be Miami, Florida - a very welcome seasonal change for our Canadian students!

...And while you are waiting for further updates, please feel free to explore the rest of the site, and especially our Partner page. This extraordinary adventure could not have happened without their generous support!

STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER UPDATES!
